The outcome of any legal issue in family law can have a considerable impact on you and your family. From the very beginning of my legal career, family-focused advocacy has been my mission; specifically, helping my clients reach the reasonable and practical solution they need for their unique circumstances.
As a family law attorney, I have experience with litigation, and I am trained as both a mediator and conciliator. While I am comfortable inside a courtroom and am a skilled litigator, whenever possible, I strive to resolve cases and obtain the best results for my clients without the need for court intervention.
Not all lawyers offer the same level of representation to their clients. My extensive background and experience will benefit you and your case objectives. I will work with you every step of the way to make sure you understand that the choices you are making will empower you to realize your goals.
My Experience and Education Is Your Advantage
Since joining SD Family Services (SDFS) in Canton in August of 2023, I continue my mentorship experience by providing the team with ongoing legal training and support. Previously, I was the Director of Legal Training for the Child and Family Forensic Evaluation Service (CAFFES) at the Center of Excellence for Children, Families and the Law at William James College. This program offers comprehensive forensic psychological evaluations for the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court and Juvenile Court involving children and families going through a divorce, modification, and other custody disputes. My tenure at CAFFES equipped me with unique skills, as well as a network of other legal professionals, which few other attorneys can claim.
In addition to my private practice and work at SDFS, I volunteer my time to several legal organizations. I also devote a considerable amount of time to the Boston Bar Association (BBA). Since 2006, I have been a member of the BBA’s Family Law Section, serving as section co-chair from 2012 to 2014. From 2015 to 2018, I sat on the BBA Council, during which time I served on the BBA Executive Committee from 2016 to 2018.
I also regularly receive appointments from the court to conciliate cases through the Middlesex County Bar Association, the Bar Association of Norfolk County, and the Judge Jeffery Abber “We Can Settle” Conciliation Initiative.
I am a member of the Greater Boston Family Law American Inn of Court and the Massachusetts Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (“AFCC”). I served on the board of directors for the Massachusetts Chapter of the AFCC from 2008 through 2015, and served as president of the board from April 2013 through April 2014.
I am the author of the “Issues Relating to Children” chapter and a co-author of the “Marital Agreements” chapter in MCLE’s Massachusetts Divorce Law Practice Manual. (MCLE, 3rd Edition, 3rd Supplement, 2021). I have lectured on trust issues in divorce.
I have been named on the Massachusetts “Super Lawyers” list since 2015 and have been given a top ranking by the legal publication Martindale-Hubbell. Before founding Durand Family Law, I was a partner at the firm of Schmidt & Federico, PC.
Prior to entering private practice, I clerked for two years for the justices of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court. I am a graduate of Providence College (magna cum laude) and Northeastern University School of Law.
